R-Woman Afghanistan
The “R-Women Afghanistan” initiative was conceived by the Sapori Reclusi italian association with the goal of bringing to light an often overlooked or ignored truth about the condition of Afghan women through art. This project also aims to promote a broader debate on the position of women in contemporary society.
R-Women Afghanistan is the natural continuation of the first edition of “R-Women,” which highlighted Iranian women and their determination in resisting oppression.
Now, the focus is turned to Afghan women, emphasizing their resilience and their ability to adapt to the continuous social and cultural impositions. Based on a traveling photographic exhibition, the project proposes a series of reports and photographic works created by international photographers.
These works portray Afghan women in their daily lives over the last 30 years. Through these images, it is possible to grasp the evolution and regression of women’s freedoms over time, as well as to leave a note of concern for the future.
The photographic exhibition will travel across Italy and Europe, involving the public in debates, cultural events, and school meetings. The goal is to raise awareness about the difficulties faced by Afghan women and promote female emancipation, the recognition of women’s rights by democratic governments, and gender equality.
The exhibition is curated by two highly experienced photographers: Davide Dutto, president of the Sapori Reclusi association, and Manoocher Deghati, known for his commitment in Kabul and for training talented photojournalists.Participating photographers include Iranians, Afghans, and Italians, among them a Pulitzer Prize winner.

About us and our activities
The aim of the Association is to research and document hidden, confined realities and tell these stories to the world, with a view to fostering active, conscious citizenship by enabling people to engage with distant realities. The Association aims to pursue this mission by
organizing cultural events and happenings.
Since 2010, Sapori Reclusi has been working on several different fronts, reaching out to the public to raise awareness of social issues, and forging dialogue between different realities.
It has produced books, such as “Evasioni”, “Il Gambero Nero”, and “Passioni – Sogni di massima sicurezza”, photography exhibitions (“Dal Gambero Nero a Sapori Reclusi”, “R-Women – Essere donne in un mondo complesso”, “Face To Face – L’arte contro il pregiudizio”), screened short films shot in prison (The Squad), organized events (the dinners “Più stelle meno sbarre” saw prison inmates working with celebrity
chefs) – and provided humanitarian assistance and support to refugees (Free Ukraine).
