According to Article 1181 of Iranian civil law, “the father and paternal grandfather have custody of the child, and such custody cannot be granted to the mother.”

This series, titled The Article That Makes Me a Stranger, draws on numerous encounters with women who are terrified of losing their children, due to the fact that all rights over children belong to fathers, relegating mothers to the role of babysitters, caught in a world of silent, unseen pain.
